The Shamshaddin district comprises Group III. Carpets
woven in this district are comparable to the Gazakh carpet
school’s style in their artistic compositions. Since the peo-
ple of this district were mostly engaged in cattle breeding
and had a cultural relationship with the regions of Gazakh,
Tovuz, and Agstafa, they bestowed great importance to
carpet weaving.
One of the major residential quarters of Shamshaddin
was the Tovuzgala area. The Veligah, Gulali, Girgi and
Haggin villages of this district that were once a part of the
Gazakh-Shamshaddin khanate developed carpet weaving.
Orchards, apiculture, and viticulture were the major occu-
pations of the population. Surrounded by low mountains
rich with springs, lakes, and mineral resources, this district
had a mild climate that contributed to the fertile soil and
abundant plant life.
