c) Anaguls. These elements are characteristic
for certain carpet compositions and serve a main
and important role in the determination of carpets
names.
d) Gyol and small khoncha. “Gyol” and “khon-
cha” both signify “medallion.” Since the forms of
gyols depicted on the carpets woven in all regions of
Azerbaijan are different, the carpets woven in Nakh-
chivan contain different forms as well.
e) Gubbas. Gubbas are included in the group of
main elements and are placed on the top (end) of
large gyols in carpet compositions. The weavers call
these elements “bashlyk” or “heykalbashi.”
The ornamental elements of the central border are
divided into two types: the elements constituting the
border repeats and the stripes constituting the hoop
of the border.
The elements constituting the weaving repeat of
the border constitute the composition of the borders.
These elements are around the repeat, either com-
bining with or in the middle of the repeat.
