The “Herat Pirabadil” from the Guba carpet group was woven in Amirkhanli vil-
lage, Shabran region. The carpet is original. It has a high quality weaving style and
a warm composition. Its material is wool, the weaving style is “turkbaf” with manu-
script elements, and is pile weave.
The carpet consists of a central field and border strip. The border contains two
strips. The first edge consists of rhomb-shaped flowers among branch-like elements
combined with one another. The second border consists of different weaving ele-
ments. Each of these patterns has different names. For example, leaf-shaped sharp
elements are called “balig” (fish) while geometrical elements with two open arms
are called “tisbagha” (tortoise) or “chayniknishan.” The tortoise element has always
been a symbol of wisdom, although it is rarely seen among Azerbaijani carpets.
Numerous stylized plant elements have been woven in “bandi-rumu” composi-
tion on the black background “Herat Pirabadil” carpet. The foliage woven in the
center of the composition of this carpet is called “balig.” Real “balig” elements can
be observed on “Darvishlar” and other Tabriz carpets. However, delicately woven
versions containing the exact details of the central field composition of “Heart Pirab-
adil” carpets are observed on “Balig” carpets woven in Karabakh and Tabriz.
Due to its small size, “Herat Pirabadil” carpets are used as “namazlyk” (prayer)
as well.
From the standpoint of color tone, the carpet is original. Each green, dark blue,
red, yellow, ivory, or orange tone is proof of its classic weaving style.
No repair or restoration work has been conducted on the carpet. The carpet is in
excellent condition. The carpet is of artistic, historic, and scientific importance.
