of snakes and dragons were depicted
on carpets in this district, mostly us-
ing yarn spun out of black and brown
sheep wool.
Carpets woven in Daralayaz prov-
ince are unique in their highly artistic
designs. Motifs such as dragons, s-,
t-, and z-shapes, emblems, stylized
birds, cherkhi-felek (the ups and downs
of life), clouds, goshabuynuz (double-
horned), girkhbuynuz (forty-horned),
elibelinde (hands on waist), serme, flames, and buta (almond-shaped) are found
on carpets belonging to this province. Daralayaz carpets contain between seven
and eleven colors.
