The gaps of the middle field of the carpet are adorned with small rhomboid elements. There are small eight-petal flower motifs
at the edges and in the center of the rhombus elements. The flowers are encircled by other flowers on all sides. Since the leaves
look like fish, carpet weavers and artists call these elements stylized balig (fish). Veteran weavers of southern Azerbaijan call this
composition “Melayir.”
The medallions depicted on the carpet are reminiscent of the medallions on “Lempe” carpets of the Tabriz group. Therefore,
some carpet weavers call this composition “Lempe” and others “Balig.”
The carpet’s narrow cream-colored border is decorated with small flower motifs. The edges of the borders and madakhils are
completed with sichandishi (mouse teeth). In itself, the carpet reflects traditional harmony, independence, and the distribution
of colors specific to Tabriz carpets of southern Azerbaijan. The general composition of the carpet and its color arrangement evoke
calming emotions.
