The date 1252 AH appears on the upper part of the carpet. A large
octagonal medallion is placed in the central field of the red carpet. A
pair of yellow goshabuynuz (double-horned) elements is found in
the blue and light green field inside the dordunsur (four elements)
in the center of the gyol (medallion). A smaller goshabuynuz motif
is placed inside the red rectangle in the center. In the upper and
lower parts of the gyol, the same motifs are employed inside the
rectangular elements. Six-petal flower, small octagonal, and evil-
eye-catcher rhombic elements serve as filler for the white empty
parts of the gyol. Blue, green, red, and white square-shaped and
dot-like elements in the corners of the gyol are reminiscent of jejim
compositions in general. In the upper and lower parts of the car-
pet’s central field, a white background with double geometric rect-
angular elements and blue edges completes the composition. To the
right and left of the gyol, there are green and yellow goshabuynuz
and in the upper and lower parts, yellow and blue hooked projec-
tions are seen. The gaps in the carpet’s central field are designed
with six-petal flower, eight-pointed geometric, and s-shaped mo-
tifs. The middle wide blue background border of the carpet is filled
with white and red motifs characteristic of the “Garachop” carpets
of Gazakh, called gaz ayagi (goose foot) by some weavers, and gay-
chibalig elements. These elements are designed with red, yellow,
blue, green, and white. On the right and left, the middle border is
surrounded with a narrow stripe decorated with mollabashi (cham-
omile) motifs designed using light green, brown, and white. At the
top and bottom, a narrow border designed using brown mollabashi
elements surrounds the middle border. Red su (water) adorns the
edges of the mollabashi motifs. From the inside, the middle border
is surrounded by a narrow stripe designed with brown and white
zigzag elements. The edges of the outside narrow border are fin-
ished with small cream, blue, green, and yellow square elements.
This carpet, with its rich pattern design, is included on the list of
complex composition carpets. Having skillfully mastered the color
blend technique of the carpet, the craftsman created a carpet with
an attractively harmonious color pattern. This carpet’s color shade
palette is very rich. The colors of the ornamental motifs in the center
field of the carpet are repeated in the motifs on the border. Tradi-
tional accord was used to work out the harmony of the colors.
