The “Alpan” carpet is an original sample of the Guba group. The carpet was wo-
ven in the Second Nugedi village, one of the weaving centers of Guba region. The
“Alpan” has limited composition. The material of the carpet is wool, its weaving
technique is turkbaf, and it has manuscript elements.
The carpet consists of a central field and border strip. Roses have been woven on
the dark colored central field. The same element has been woven in the center of
this carpet. The rose has been described both in its real form and in its ornamental
form. Plant elements such as leaves, petals, and flowers are often observed on Guba
carpets. This “Alpan” carpet has a special design.
The rose element has multiple meanings. This flower’s image rises almost to the
level of a cult in the East. It is considered the symbol of beauty, love, perfection,
power, happiness, secret love, the heart, and paradise. In Eastern poetry, a rose is
always shown with a nightingale. In Sufism, the bird element is interpreted as the
power taking a human’s spirit to the sky and a rose is seen as the symbol of a sacred
human image bowing before God. The fragrance of a rose is considered the scent of
paradise. Roses have been depicted on carpets for many centuries. This flower has
lost its initial form and become more decorative, but from the standpoint of its mea-
ning, it has stayed the same throughout history.
No repair or restoration work has been conducted on the carpet. The carpet is in
excellent condition. The carpet is of artistic, historic, and scientific importance.
