The “Pirabadil” carpet carries the name of Pirabadil village, a well-known wea-
ving area of Guba. This was woven in Gonagkand. The carpet is pile weave, it has
manuscript elements, and is made of wool.
This “Pirabadil” carpet consists of a border strip and central field. The border strip
contains six sections. The first external border has been trimmed with “mollabashi”
elements. This pattern has a constructive structure. The elements of “mollabashi”
consist of triangular and rhomboid shapes and are considered the elements frequ-
ently used in architecture and glazing art. The triangular pattern serves as a symbol
of rising to the sky and to God, while the rhomb is a symbol of eternal growth, abun-
dance, and inexhaustibility. The other two strips of the border are in the form of a
braid and the major border is in the structure of “kufi.” The “kufi” border strip is an
element that can be observed on many carpets. Its creation relates to the establish-
ment of Islam and “kufi” is considered one of the geometrical symbols of religious
sura as depicted in modern times.
The central border of the “Pirabadil” carpet is woven in a dark blue background.
This noble color gives special beauty to the carpet. White, red, ivory, and light green
hues create harmony with the colors in the border strip of the carpet. The patterns
called “buynuz” (horn) woven in the center, scissors, grape leaves, rhomb, birds,
small flowers, and s-shapes have their own meaning. These patterns have protective
meanings for the carpet and act as a carrier of positive energy.
The bird symbol relates to eternal life and the future world; the horn symbolizes
strength and power; and the s-shape symbolizes water and purity. Small flowers are
the symbol of paradise.
The carpet has been trimmed with elements having a positive effect and is inten-
ded to protect its owner against evil and danger.
No repair or restoration work has been conducted on the carpet. The carpet is in
excellent condition. The carpet is of artistic, historic, and scientific importance.
