The artistic structure of the at chulu contains a central field and border. The chul was woven as a result of zili flat weave
carpet technology.
The at chulu is a delicate flat weave carpet item that sits on the spine of horses in Azerbaijan to look beautiful and mag-
nificent. At chulu have different forms: with collar and without collar.
The dark blue central field is divided into ten parts with strips. Four of the parts are large and six of them are small. The
strips consist of white, dark blue, red, and green “pitikli” elements.
Dog and gazelle depictions in the divided parts of the central field are represented in a form directed to the left and right.
These elements are trimmed with yellow, ivory, white, green, blue, red, and dark blue. In addition to the animal depictions,
the at chulu has been decorated with eight-pointed stars and other stylized plant and geometrical elements trimmed with
the same colors.
The stylized plant and geometrical elements are depicted in only two small areas.
The borders of the chul are different. The major border is trimmed with “pitikli” elements similar to the strips of the cent-
ral field. The major border and central field is surrounded with red and blue “qarmaqli” (hook-like) border strips.
Red and green “sichandishi” (mouse teeth) elements are depicted in the lower part of the chul.
Hard colors and multiple colors are preferred in the color design of chul. By coordinating dark blue with white, yellow,
red, blue, green, and other bright colors, a pleasant color harmony has been created.
The warp and weft of the chul is wool. The condition of the chul is excellent. The chul is of artistic, historical, and scientific
importance.
