The artistic structure of this brick red shedde contains a simple central field and a relatively composite border.
There are two-headed and four-footed fantastic animal depictions on the upper and lower sections of the central field.
The fantastic animal depictions are trimmed with dark blue, white, light green, and dark red. These animal depictions ap-
pear inside the motifs parted with broken lines. The lines are trimmed in white.
The border surrounding the central field of the carpet is trimmed with square elements with eight-pointed stars inside
them. The geometric elements, which are characteristic for Azerbaijani carpets, were developed in the Bronze Age and
the same style has remained until modern times. Such ornaments on carpets were also represented on ancient ceramic
products. Square elements and the motifs inside them are trimmed with white, red, yellow, dark brown, turquoise, light
green, and dark blue. The square elements are depicted in the center of the stars. By alternating the color of the stars and
quadrangular elements, a pleasantly rhythmic vision has been created.
The central border of the carpet is decorated with triangular motifs trimmed in white and dark brown. The edges of the
hooked triangles are trimmed with red “su” (water). The hooked triangular motifs on the carpets woven in Nakhchivan
carpets as well as in other regions of Azerbaijan are also found on ceramic samples of the Last Bronze Age discovered in
the barrow in Ganjachay Valley, Dashkasan, Ganjachay. These ornaments have been protected traditionally and have lasted
until the present.
The central field of the carpet is surrounded with relatively narrow borders trimmed on both sides with motifs called
“damgha” (stamp). “Damgha” motifs are one of the most widespread ornaments in Azerbaijani carpets. The history of
these elements is very old. “Damgha” motifs are trimmed with yellow, red, turquoise, green, white, dark and light brown,
dark blue, blue, and lilac colors. The borders finish in white broken lines on each side. Broken lines developed in ancient
times and remain traditional among geometric ornamental forms, not losing their essence and remaining popular in works
even now.
The harmonious coordination of the main ornaments and small elements of this carpet trimmed with contrasting colors
increases its beauty.
Color harmony has been preserved in the carpet with a high professionalism and an attractive appearance has been cre-
ated.
The carpet is woven from natural wool using natural dyes. The condition of the carpet is complete. The carpet is of
artistic, historical, and scientific importance.
