The main decoration of the khurjun contains elements represented in the central field and charac-
teristic of verni carpets. These elements trimmed with brick red, blue, and ivory-yellow contrast the
bright-red background. The blank spaces in the central field are filled with white, blue, dark blue,
and brick red elements called “damgha” (stamp). There are “buta” (paisley) and small barely visible
depictions of oxen at the upper and lower sections and central edges. The “buta” and ox depictions
are trimmed with white-black and blue. “Buta” motifs with similar form are depicted on the classic
elements as well.
The dark blue large border has been decorated with z-shaped elements. These elements are called
“stilleshmish ordek” (stylized duck). These elements, which are mainly used on Karabakh verni,
carry a symbolic meaning. Elements called “ordek” are trimmed with bright red, light brown, blue,
brick red, ivory, yellow, dark green, blue, white, and light red. The edges of these elements are
surrounded with projected stripes. The edges of the projected stripes finish in ivory “su” (water).
The khurjun uzu is woven from wool. The condition of the khurjun uzu is complete and is of ar-
tistic, historical, and scientific importance.
