Carpets of this type were woven in the south of Shamakhi Chukhanly, Maraza Na-
bur, in areas of Agsu, Dzhamdzhamli, Kovlar, Bijo, Gashad, Hajigabul, Padar, Udur,
Pashaly, Sorbachy, Duvanly, and other Caspian villages near the Pirsaat River.
The main decorations of the carpet’s background are sugary floral motifs in dia-
mond-shaped networks, which compose four-petal flowers. The jagged edges of the
dark blue networks and flowers are surrounded by burgundy-colored “su” (water).
Elements within the diamond-shaped networks are patterned horizontally and
obliquely. These items are also gathered vertically while the horizontal direction
shows various forms and colors.
The middle section of the carpet covers a flower chain of cornelian,
white, blue, red, and yellow four-petal flowers. The chain on the right
and left surrounded by water is blue and the upper and lower parts of
the "mollabashi" motifs are cornelian and blue.
The main part of a background is decorated with cornelian "chardak" (bough) mo-
tifs, which some weavers call rods. These elements can often be found in the main
section of the carpets of this group. The "chardak" are often yellow, light brown,
dark blue, burgundy, or blue. The edges of the elements are light brown, yellow,
blue and white, burgundy, and yellow, with blue edges sometimes decorated with
"sichandishi" (mouse teeth) motifs.
The small fringe around the main border of the carpet exemplifies “dord unsur"
(four elements) and x-shaped motifs. These motifs are depicted in blue, yellow, cor-
nelian, white, purple, sugar-colored, and dark blue. The edges of the small rims have
white edges and slightly visible z-shaped elements. These elements are surrounded
on both sides by cornelian "su."
The carpet’s rich color design uses ten colors. This color palette is both traditional
and pleasing.
The pile and weft of the carpet are made of wool and the warp is made of cotton.
The storage condition of the carpet was excellent. The carpet is of artistic, historic,
and scientific importance.
