The middle field, border, and madakhils are colored
in ivory, while the minor edges are designed in blue.
The imaginary birds in the foreground and on the main
border are dark and light green and brown; the plant el-
ements are pink, blue, light brown, and green. The edg-
es of the plants are dark red, blue, light and dark green,
and pink. The main border is decorated with linked
branches adorned with flowers and leaves on the inside
and outside. The flowers are pink and ivory; the leaves
are green and dark brown; and the linked branches are
ivory, pink, and dark violet.
The background of the medallion in the middle field
is pink; the other medallions are designed in green. The
dominant color of the carpet is ivory.
The minor borders are surrounded with madakhils
filled with tiny double-horn elements and flowers. The
edges of the madakhils are completed with pink “su”
(water). The borders of the carpet are surrounded by
madakhils decorated with brown and white “molla-
bashi” (chamomile) motifs.
The colors typical for Azerbaijani Tabriz carpets are
reflected in this carpet. A traditional regularity was
followed professionally and the design of the carpet is
universally appealing.
The pile of the carpet is woolen while the warp and
weft are made of cotton. The carpet is in excellent con-
dition. The carpet has an artistic, historic, and scientific
importance.
In the middle field of the carpet inside the medallion, the
Sassanid king Anushirvan is depicted. His nickname was
Adil. He is remembered as a fair king during the Sassa-
nid period (3
rd
-4
th
centuries). Anushirvan highly valued
knowledge and a large number of books were written
during his reign.
On the top of the middle field on the right,
Keykhosrov I’s portrait is depicted. Keykhosrov
was one of the shahs of the Sassanid period.
On the left, Khosrow Parviz I is depicted. He was also
one of the Sassanid shahs. When the prophet Moham-
med sent a letter to Iran, asking the Zoroastrians to ac-
cept Islam, Khosrow Parviz was the shah. He tore apart
the Prophet Mohammed’s letter and rejected Islam.
Khosrow Parviz was very stubborn and oppressive in
his youth and during his reign.
