The date 1313 AH appears at the top of
the carpet’s middle field. This carpet was
woven on the basis of Gazakh’s “Borch-
ali” composition. In the middle field of
this sumac background carpet, a large
octagonal gyol (medallion) is depicted.
There is a dordunsur (four elements) in-
side the gyol. The dordunsur element is
depicted with light green. Meanwhile,
the cross-like elements pointing in four
directions, the goshabuynuz (double-
horned) motifs on the right and left, and
the hooked medallions at the top and
bottom are depicted in dark red.
There are jutbuynuz (double-horned)
motifs in the empty areas of the white
background gyol. There are arrow-like
motifs pointing towards the center from
the top and bottom of the carpet’s middle
field. The edges of the gyol are decorated
with small yellow and sumac square ele-
ments; with brown zigzags on the inside;
and with navy blue hooks on the out-
side. Sumac-colored su (water) complete
the edges of the dark brown motifs with
arrow signs on the right and left.
Classic elements specific to “Borchali”
carpets are depicted on the watermelon-
colored background in the corners of
the middle field. These elements are de-
signed with dark brown su and the edg-
es with sumac-colored su. Rhombic ele-
ments with small tips pointing towards
the center from the edges of the middle
field contribute to the special vision of
the middle field’s composition. These el-
ements are designed in navy blue.
The watermelon-colored background
border designed with small rhombic
motifs inside surrounds the middle field
of the carpet. The rhombic motifs are
represented in white, navy blue, sumac,
brown, and yellow. The edges of the bor-
der are completed with white and su-
mac-colored sichandishi (mouse teeth).
The white background border of the
carpet is decorated with green branches,
rhombic, rectangular, and octagonal ele-
ments. The inside of the rectangular ele-
ments is divided into four parts designed
with sumac and yellow. The eight-point-
ed circular motifs are depicted in sumac.
