The date 1317 AH appears in two parts
inside the vertical white background
schemes in the lower part of the carpet’s
middle field. This carpet was woven on
the basis of the “Khantirme” composi-
tion of Karabakh.
The middle field of the carpet consists
of schemes divided into three parts.
The central scheme has a dark red back-
ground and the schemes on the right
and left have white backgrounds. Blue
horn-like elements with hook-like tips
are depicted on the red background
schemes. The same motifs are employed
in dark red on the white background
schemes. On both sides, the schemes
are surrounded with light blue stripes
depicted with wavy lines on the inside.
The light blue stripes on the edges of the
red background scheme in the center are
depicted with black lines on the inside
and red lines on the outside. The ex-
ternal stripes on the edges of the white
background schemes are decorated
with red and light brown. These stripes
are surrounded with black su (water)
on both sides. Barely visible cross-like
and small nearly unrecognizable buta
(almond-shaped) motifs are depicted on
the elements of the schemes. The same
motifs are repeated along the light blue
background stripes.
The empty spaces of the dark red and
white background schemes are filled
with small buta and cross-like motifs.
The wide dark red background of the
carpet is decorated with hooked medal-
lions designed with white, light blue,
pale yellow, blue, red, and black. The
empty spaces of the border are filled
with arrow-like motifs. These motifs
are depicted in white and red, blue and
yellow, and red and yellow; some are
depicted in red, blue, yellow, or mixed
colors.
The narrow white background border
of the carpet is designed with red, blue,
light blue, yellow, and brown flowers,
leaves, and wavy branches. The border
is surrounded with red and yellow ma-
dakhils. Black su completes the madakh-
ils. There are black gazma on the edges
of the flowers and leaves on the border.
The colors of the red background
scheme in the middle field of the carpet
and the red motifs on the white back-
ground match the background of the
main border. A general compositional
combination is achieved by coordinat-
ing the colors of the blue elements on
the red scheme with the blue flowers de-
picted on the white background border.
