At the top part of the carpet, inside the
brown background border, the date 1313 AH
appears. This carpet has a complex composi-
tional structure. The main decoration of this
light navy blue background carpet contains
rhombic medallions designed in a symmetric
arrangement. The edges of these medallions
are designed with hooked motifs. Turquoise,
blue, and red are depicted inside the orange
background medallions, red and navy blue
on those of white background, and white
and red on those of turquoise background.
Sometimes these colors are employed in dif-
ferent and alternating shades. The hooks are
depicted in orange, red, light blue, brown,
white, and turquoise. The edges of the middle
field are surrounded with mollabashi (cham-
omile) motifs depicted in turquoise and red.
The empty spaces of the middle field are filled
with hooked, dordunsur (four elements), and
stepped motifs, as well as bird depictions.
The middle cream-colored background
border of the carpet is adorned with mashal
(torch) or shamdan (candlestick) elements de-
picted in red, blue, light blue, turquoise, yel-
low, dark brown, and navy blue. The empty
areas of the border are filled with small square
motifs.
The narrow brown background borders sur-
rounding the middle field are decorated with
elements reminiscent of four-petal flowers.
These elements are designed in light blue,
blue, red, orange, yellow, and turquoise. The
petals of the flowers are rhomboid. The mid-
dle cream-colored background border of the
carpet is surrounded with red and black; the
narrower borders are surrounded with blue
and black su (water). The outside brown back-
ground border is enclosed with madakhils
decorated with cream and red mollabashi mo-
tifs. The edges of the madakhils are completed
with su designed using black and blue. The
edges of the carpet are ornamented with red,
blue, light blue, light brown, and turquoise,
using a braiding method.
