Azerbaijani carpets / TABRIZ GROUP
The description of the carpet (16
th
century) demonstrated in the
Louvre (France) and reflecting the animals which are an integral
attribute of these places besides the ancient miniature motives
also demonstrates a creative imagination of the Azerbaijani mas-
ters.
Including the motif in general composition reflecting the an-
imals’ struggle for survival in the carpet (16
th
century) kept at
Tussauds Museum in London gave the “Meshali” more dramatic
effect.
“Meshali” carpet at Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan distin-
guishes with its rich patterns. In the area around the central lake
reflecting birds and flowers the miracle of description of differ-
ent birds and hosts of heaven and trees with bent trunk, as well
as a lot of branches spread along the field is unchallenged fact.
“Baghchali” carpets have peculiar artistic-aesthetic features
among the motives creating tenderness belonging to Tabriz
group of carpets. The carpet-weavers did not get bored of creat-
ing marvelous scenes from the loops as if competing with the
miniature-artists. Description of blossom gardens, lovely fields,
rivers and waterfalls with songster birds in the carpets was re-
ceived as coming from miniatures. Finding so successful artistic
stylized means for carpets, as well as achieving a convincing dec-
orative of the descriptions by the carpet-weavers was their high-
level mastery. World carpet weaving, as well as the Azerbaijani
art has been enriched in a number of weaving specimens having
lovely garden motifs. The most ancient one (16
th
century) is kept
at the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. The compo-
sition of the carpet consists of the stylized description of a real
garden. The carpet-weavers providing it as a description of wa-
ter flow and getting it by dividing it into six right-angled stripes
having different sizes and describing fish at crossing points of
these stripes of various colors have achieved the effective view
of general composition
Long lakes with flowery bushes are given on the background of
two stripes placed in the upper part. Surrounding these lakes on
two sides with trees having the branches with birds descriptions
impacted positively on the artistic value of the carpet. Another
four stripes included in the composition have been enriched in
interesting elements. Completion of three pair right angles with
three bird figures can be considered as successful artistic finding.
In the carpets dating back to the 16
th
century and kept at the
Pennsylvania Arts Museum (USA) and the Tehran Carpet Mu-
seum (Iran), as well as in the carpet kept in the collection of the
Metropolitan Museum consists of an interesting artistic solution
of “Baghchali” composition updating from field to field. Within
the Tabriz group of carpets, the “Agajli” composition can be con-
