sumac, yellow, and brown. The edges of the zigzags along the internal border use sumac, while the edges of the zigzags
along the outside border are decorated with yellow su (water). The edges of the border are enclosed with yellow, sumac,
white, and cream madakhils.
The border enclosing the carpet’s middle field is patterned with t-shaped elements. Sumac, white, yellow, pale red,
brown, green, and lilac are employed for these elements. The edges of t-shaped elements are completed with black su. The
border is surrounded by madakhils decorated with multi-tone lines of yellow-light red, white-sumac, white-navy blue,
sumac-green, and light red-brown-green colors. The top and bottom parts of the carpet have a pale navy blue backdrop;
the intervening area has a brown field, while the center has a navy blue background.
The carpet was woven on the basis of technology characteristic of Azerbaijan’s Gazakh carpet group by carpet master
Asli Khanim, who was from Kotanli village in the Vedi District of western Azerbaijan. The pile, arish (warp), and ergaj
(weft) of the carpet are wool. The carpet was woven with handmade yarn. The carpet has artistic and historical signifi-
cance. All the color dyes of the carpet are natural. It has been preserved in excellent conditions.
