Inside the dark red gyol (medallion) in the up-
per part of the middle field, the date 1271 AH ap-
pears on this richly patterned carpet. The unique
artistic structure and color pattern historically
specific to the carpet weaving centers of western
Azerbaijan have been protected and preserved in
this carpet.
Three large eight-pointed gyols are placed in
the middle blue field. These gyols are the same
in form and differ from each other only in their
color designs.
There are yellow rectangular medallions inside
the dark red gyols. The borders of the medallions
are surrounded by watermelon-colored stripes;
motifs such as hooked bulges are depicted in the
corners of the upper and lower parts, and jut-
buynuz (double-horned) appear on the right and
left. Inside the medallions, in the center of the ele-
ments with stepped edges, there is a navy blue
dordunsur (four elements) motif that is reminis-
cent of four-petal flowers; green s-shaped motifs
fill the gaps of the medallion in the upper section
and there are four-petal flowers and small ele-
ments with stepped edges inside the medallion
in the lower part. The edges of dordunsur motifs
are complemented with dark red su (water). T-
shaped motifs designed using white and navy
blue are arranged in the upper and lower parts
of the gyols. Small dordunsur motifs and classic
elements with stepped edges are placed in and on
the borders of these motifs. The gaps inside the
gyols are filled with blue and yellow s-shaped el-
ements and white, yellow, blue, and green trian-
gular elements in the upper parts.
The medallion inside the similar-shaped white
medallion in the center is designed using dark
green and dark red. Dark red is employed for the
edges of the medallion. There are dark red, dark
green, blue, and yellow rhombic four-petal flow-
ers and s-shaped and small dordunsur motifs on
the borders of the medallion. The empty spaces of
the middle field are enriched with goshabuynuz
(double-horned), eight-pointed stars, four- and
eight-petal flowers, rhombic, rectangular, classic
stepped edge, and s-shaped elements. There are
dordunsur motifs among these elements that are
barely noticeable.
The elements in the gaps are composed of yel-
low, dark red, green, white, navy blue, brown,
and black.
Patterns called zulfelem adorn the white border
of the carpet. Yellow, dark red, and blue colors are
employed to depict these patterns. In the upper
part of the main border in the left corner, there
are red and navy blue jutbuynuz, blue and red
four-petal flowers, and small red, navy blue, and
green dordunsur motifs. Guard stripes designed
using green and dark red hooked elements sur-
round the main border. The stripes are surround-
ed with madakhils adorned with yellow and dark
red square motifs on both sides. The edges of the
madakhils are complemented with black su.
