The composition of the carpet consists of a middle
field and a border.
The date 1272 AH appears on the right upper sec-
tion of the middle field of the carpet. A mehrab-like
(shrine) hexagonal medallion is placed in the center
of the carpet's middle field on a red background. The
edges of themedallion are designedwith green hooks
on the inside and cream-colored hooks on the out-
side. In the center of the medallion, inside the rectan-
gular light blue geometric element, a goshabuynuz
(double-horned) motif specific to “Garachop” carpets
of the Gazakh Group is seen. Some weavers call these
motifs goshaguyrum. The cream-colored geometric
element designed using the same motif is repeated
on the right and left. In the lower part of the medal-
lion, on the left of the middle field, a horse figure ap-
pears with a human image on it. On the right and
left of the medallion, the gaps of the middle field are
filled with rhombic motifs with a chess arrangement
on the inside.
At the top and bottom of the carpet's middle field,
twin rectangular elements depicted in yellow, dark
red, green, and watermelon-colored eight-pointed
stars are seen. The hooked motifs patterned face-to-
face in the upper and lower parts on the green-framed
edges of these geometric elements and designed in
opposite directions on the right and left give a par-
ticular feel to the general composition of the carpet.
The elements on the wide border of the navy blue
carpet are reminiscent of teheng yarpagi used in the
middle border of “Gadim Minare” and “Ugakh” car-
pets belonging to the Guba Group. These elements
are designed using cream, dark red, and green col-
ors. The edges of the border are designed with si-
chandishi (mouse teeth) on both sides. The main bor-
der is surrounded with cream-colored background
guard stripes decorated with dark brown mollabashi
(chamomile) motifs on the right and left; green mol-
labashi motifs outside on the top and brown molla-
bashi motifs on the inside. The edges of the molla-
bashi motifs are designed using dark red su (water).
The empty spaces in the middle field of the carpet
are filled with s-shaped, fylfot, dordunsur (four ele-
ments), and other various small motifs. The colors of
the elements in the middle field are repeated in the
border elements, producing an attractive composi-
tion and eye-catching color palette. Along the right
and left, the edges of the carpet are designed using
a braiding method with dark red, cream, and green
yarn specific to Gazakh carpets. The colors specific
to Gazakh carpets of Azerbaijan are reflected on this
carpet as well.
