The carpet was woven on the basis of the “Gedebey”
composition from the Ganja-Gazakh Group. The artis-
tic structure of this carpet consists of a middle field and
a border. The date 1278 AH appears inside the rectan-
gular white background medallion close to the center
of the middle field. This carpet shows a very complex
compositional structure. A large gyol (medallion) with
zigzag edges is placed in the navy blue middle field of
the carpet. Arranged one after another vertically, two
white background rectangular medallions and three
dark red background medallions with bulged edges
are depicted inside the gyol. In the center of the rect-
angular white medallion, a rectangular element ap-
pears with a damga (stamp) motif on the inside. There
are jutbuynuz (double-horned) motifs to the right and
left of the rectangular element. In the empty spaces of
the medallion, rhombic red and dark brown s-shaped
motifs and blue and red double triangle motifs appear.
Inside the white field medallion at the bottom, to the
right and left of the 1278 AH date in the center, jut-
buynuz motifs are depicted and various-sized rhombic
and s-shaped motifs appear in the empty spaces.
Hooked motifs are depicted in the center of the red
background medallions; in the empty spaces of the
medallion at the top, four-petal flowers and s-shaped
motifs are designed; and classic elements with bulged
edges, rhombic, s-shaped, and four-petal flowers deco-
rate the medallions in the center and at the bottom.
Triangular elements with hooked edges, s-shaped el-
ements, and stylized goat images are illustrated along
the bulged gaps in the center, at the top and bottom
of the gyol. The small motifs, triangular elements with
hooked edges and stylized animal depictions in the
empty spaces of the gyol and medallions, are also de-
picted in the empty spaces of the middle field in differ-
ent colors.
The main white background border decorated with
zulfelem motifs surrounds the middle field of the car-
pet. These motifs are adorned with dark green, dark
red, navy blue, yellow, blue, purple, brick red, orange,
and brown colors. The main border is enclosed on both
sides with guard stripes decorated on the inside with
navy blue, dark red, light blue, and red-orange, and
in some parts with light blue mollabashi (chamomile)
elements. The borders are encircled on both sides with
red and yellow square madakhils; the inside border is
decorated with red and yellow square madakhils on
the outside and red and white square madakhils on the
inside. The edges of the madakhils are completed with
dark brown su (water).
