The date 1280 AH appears at the top of the carpet’s middle field
in the right corner.
A large light green gyol (medallion) with a blue top is found in
the dark red middle field of the carpet. The edges of the gyol are
surrounded by blue background stripes designed with dark red
zigzags inside and red wavy lines outside. The edges of the zig-
zags are completed with sichandishi (mouse teeth) and the edges
of the blue stripes are completed with white su (water). The top
and bottom of the gyol is shaped like a mehrab (shrine).
Wavy lines are widespread in the design of Azerbaijani carpets
and in the ceramics belonging to the Bronze Age and early Stone
Age.
A seven-pointed medallion appears inside the gyol in the mid-
dle field of the carpet. A rectangular element is depicted on a
white background in the center of the medallion. Goshabuynuz
(double-horned) elements surround the top, bottom, right, and
left of this element. The edges of the white background medal-
lion are depicted with navy blue hooks at the top and bottom
and stripes on the right and left. The edges of the medallion are
completed with white su outside and goshabuynuz motifs at the
top and bottom.
The top and bottom of the gyol are designed with rhombic
medallions divided internally into four parts. The edges of the
medallion are decorated with green and white su on the inside
and red hooks on the outside. White background small gyols de-
signed with jutbuynuz (double-horned) motifs on the inside are
depicted in the empty spaces along the edges of the center me-
dallion. There are s-shaped, gazayagi (goose feet), and four-petal
flower images between the medallions.
The gaps on the carpet’s middle field are filled with hooked,
gazayagi, s-shaped, and four-petal flower motifs designed using
white, yellow, navy blue, and light green.
The wide blue field border of the carpet is decorated with
hooked and gazayagi motifs designed using yellow, white, light
blue, light green, and dark red.
The middle field is surrounded with madakhils designed in
brown and white zigzags. The edges of the zigzags are designed
using red su. The edges of the madakhils are completed with yel-
low and red square motifs.
