The date 1307 AH appears on the red
background at the top of the carpet’s
middle field. The carpet was woven on
the basis of a composition specific to
Karabakh kilims.
The middle field of the carpet is divid-
ed into narrow and wide schemes. Clas-
sic elements are represented in navy blue
and light green on a red background, in
red and white in the navy blue schemes,
in red on the light green schemes, while
an element called kilimgulu (kilim flow-
er) is depicted inside the white medal-
lions. There are cross-like motifs called
dordunsur (four elements) with stepped
edges in the center of the kilimgulu el-
ements. The edges of the kilimgulu ele-
ments depicted on the carpet are also
stepped.
Partial triangular classic elements rep-
resent the empty spaces between the
medallions on the schemes. There are
stepped motifs in the center of these el-
ements. The incomplete stepped motifs
are designed in yellow, brown, pink, red,
white, lilac, blue, light green, and navy
blue.
The edges of the wide schemes are
completed with small zigzag motifs rep-
resented in white and black.
There are red, lilac, light green, sumac,
and navy blue classic elements along
the white background narrow stripes of
the carpet. The empty spaces of these
elements are decorated with dordunsur
motifs. The white background narrow
stripes are surrounded with navy blue
stripes designed with small kilimgu-
lu elements inside on both sides. The
kilimgulu elements are represented with
yellow, green, red, white, pink, and blue.
This kilim, woven using a simple wind-
ing technique, has a rich pattern design.
The carpet has a rich color palette and a
complex compositional structure.
The white background narrow stripes
are adorned with black background el-
ements designed in blue, yellow, light
green, orange, and sumac on both sides.
