The date 1307 AH appears at the bot-
tom of the medallion found at the top of
the carpet’s middle field. The main deco-
ration of the carpet contains three large
gyols (medallions) placed on the dark
red background middle field. There are
small medallions with stepped edges
and smaller octagonal motifs inside the
gyol in the navy blue background cen-
ter. These motifs are also reminiscent of
eight-petal flowers. Similar-shaped mo-
tifs are depicted inside the stepped motifs
in smaller sizes. The edges of the stepped
element in the center are complemented
with white su (water) and the edges of the
stepped elements at the top, bottom, right,
and left are finished with yellow su. The
edges of the gyols are surrounded with
red, white, orange, and blue su. Red and
green sichandishi (mouse teeth) are hard-
ly noticeable between the su. The empty
spaces in the middle field of the carpet
are filled with hexagonal and octagonal
elements and octagonal stars. In the cor-
ners at the top and bottom of the middle
field, there are classic stepped elements
adorned in green. The edges of these ele-
ments are enclosedwithwhite su. Hooked
motifs represented in green, orange, and
sumac are depicted on the right and left
of the gyols at the bottom and top, found
on the middle field close to the corners.
In the empty spaces of the middle field at
the bottom part of the gyol, stylized hu-
man and animal figures and other filler
elements are depicted. Elements called
sirga (earring) are clearly noticeable on
the right and left of the middle field and
at the bottom of the central gyol. The blue
background border of the carpet exhib-
its motifs called gaychibalig and mashal
(torch). These motifs are ornamented in
white, red, green, orange, yellow, and su-
mac. The wide border is encircled with
red zigzag madakhils. The madakhils
are completed with chains designed us-
ing white, red, orange, and green. Colors
specific to Goycheli carpets as well have
been employed on this carpet with a high
degree of professionalism.
