The date 1309AH appears at the top of the carpet’s middle
field. In two rows in the middle of this dark red field car-
pet, eight hexagonal medallions are placed. The medallions
on the left row are represented in white and red, green and
red, brown and white, and blue and red; the medallions on
the right row are designed with brown and red, blue and
red, white and brown, and green and red. Motifs specific
to Gazakh carpets are depicted inside the medallions. Blue
horseshoe-like motifs pointing right and left are depicted
inside the medallions, yellowish brown motifs are seen in
the center of the blue and red medallions, and white motifs
are found inside the green and red medallions. The edges
of the medallions are surrounded with sichandishi (mouse
teeth). Brown elements similar to arrow and ax motifs that
are specific to Gazakh’s “Salahli” carpets decorate the white
background border of the carpet. There are zigzag decora-
tions between the motifs. The edges of the brown elements
are designed with red su (water). Dark brown su surround
the middle field from the left. The middle field is enclosed
with narrower borders represented with hooked motifs of
red and blue on the inside and with red and green on the
outside. The left border is surrounded with sichandishi de-
picted in white and red on the inside and with yellow, light
blue, and red on the outside. The edges of the right border
are designed with red, blue, and yellow sichandishi on the
inside and with white sichandishi on the outside. Dark red
and cream colors dominate the carpet. The traditional har-
mony of these colors shows a high professionalism.
