The date 1331 AH appears on the middle
field of the carpet in the empty space be-
low the green gyol (medallion).
The composition of the carpet consists
of a middle field and a border. On the
sumac-colored background middle field,
three large hexagonal gyol are placed. A
red rectangular medallion appears inside
the green background gyol in the center.
A navy blue element with hooked edges
is depicted in the center of the medallion.
The hooks are designed in white.
Multi-angular hooked ornaments are
widely represented in the decorative ap-
plied art samples of Azerbaijan, including
carpets. It is possible to encounter many
samples of hooked ornaments on carpets.
The hooked ornaments have been depict-
ed not only on carpets, but also on other
household items like mafrashs, salt bags
made out of woven materials, khurjuns
and camel chuls, and this tradition still
continues.
Navy blue and sumac-colored gols
(arms) are crossed at the top and bottom
of the sumac-colored medallion inside the
green background gyol. Wheatear-like el-
ements are depicted on the right and left
of the medallion. These elements are de-
signed in navy blue, sumac, and yellow.
In the center of the top and bottom of the
medallion, motifs with rhombic tips are
depicted. The same motifs are repeated on
wheatear-like elements. The edges of the
medallion are designed with white and
sumac-colored incomplete lines. Brown su
(water) completes the edges of the lines.
Inside the gyols at the top and bottom of
the middle field, large rhombic medallions
occur. The edges of the medallions are de-
signed with sumac-colored hooks. Small-
er medallions are placed inside the white
background medallions. The hooked mo-
tifs on the edges of the large medallion
are repeated on the small medallions with
the same color. White and red incomplete
lines finish the edges of the blue gyols.
The middle border of the carpet is deco-
rated with sumac, green, purple, and navy
blue elements with stepped edges. White
su completes the edges of the stepped ele-
ments.
On the outside, the middle border is sur-
rounded with a navy blue background
border decorated with sumac, green, and
purple classic elements and eight-sided
star motifs on the inside.
The green background border is sur-
rounded with white and red incomplete
lines on the inside and orange and white
incomplete lines on the outside; the navy
blue background border is enclosed with
orange and white incomplete lines on the
inside and with white and red incomplete
lines on the outside. The edges of the mid-
dle border are decorated with white su.
