ni carpets of Baku. Veteran weavers and craftsmen doing research on carpet patterns assume that according to its form, the buta
is a symbol of fire related to Zoroastrianism. The empty spaces of the middle field are filled with hooked motifs, small stepped
elements, flowers, dordunsur (four elements) and others.
The main white background border of the carpet is adorned with blue, red, brown, and purple hooked motifs. The color of the-
se hooked motifs is changed to create a special harmony. The empty spaces between the hooked motifs are filled with small red
stepped elements on the right and left and with red and blue small stepped elements in the upper part. The middle border is sur-
rounded with red background guard stripes on the inside and blue background guard stripes on the outside. Purple, white, blue,
red, yellow, and light navy blue stepped elements are depicted inside these borders. The red border is designed with white and
red sichandishi (mouse teeth) on the inside and yellow, red, and blue sichandishi from the outside; the blue border is designed
with blue and red sichandishi on the inside and yellow and red sichandishi on the outside. The edges of the carpet are designed
with a light blue, red, and purple, colored braiding technique.
