The date 1282 AH appears on the red fylfot motif in-
side the rectangular geometric medallion in the middle
field of the carpet.
In the middle field of this blue carpet a large red gyol
(medallion) appears. A large rectangular medallion is
placed inside the gyol. There are fylfot motifs inside
the medallion. These motifs have the same color as the
large gyol. In the center of the fylfot motifs, white and
brown eight-pointed elements are represented. The
inside of these elements are divided into four parts.
The empty spaces between the fylfot motifs are filled
with stretched s-shaped elements. These elements are
encountered in various aspects of Azerbaijani decora-
tive applied art. The pink background stripes designed
with wavy lines inside the edges of the rectangular
medallion give the medallion a special beauty. The
medallion is completed with triangular elements at
the top and bottom. Despite their simple appearance,
white, light blue, and blue tree-like motifs arranged in
an incline inside these geometric elements make this
composition more appealing. The empty spaces of the
middle field are filled with four- and eight-petal flow-
ers and eight-pointed star motifs.
The blue background border of the carpet is de-
signed with eight-angled geometric elements. The in-
side of these elements is divided into four parts, with
horseshoe-shaped motifs. According to popular belief,
horseshoe-shaped motifs are interpreted as symbols
of abundance, protectors of people from ill intentions,
and as protection from the evil eye.
People in some districts of Azerbaijan still hang
horseshoes on their doors and above their gates.
The color of the motifs along the border of the car-
pet is duplicated in the motifs of the middle field. The
edges of the border are completed with white and red
sichandishi (mouse teeth) and the edges of the red
medallion are finished with light brown, black, and
red su.
