The date 1284 AH appears at the top right
of the carpet.
The middle brick-red background field of
the carpet represents a large blue medallion.
The edges of the gyol (medallion) are sur-
rounded with light green background zig-
zag stripes designed with red wavy zigzag-
shaped lines on the inside. Inside the gyol,
there are red background rhombic elements
with green hooked motifs in the center.
Green and red incomplete lines surround
the edges of the medallions on the inside
and white hooked elements surround them
on the outside. Smaller hooked medallions
designed with red, orange, green, white,
and brown colors are represented in the up-
per and lower sections of the medallions.
The empty spaces of the gyol are decorated
with rhombic, s-shaped motifs and flower
images designed with yellow, red, green,
and white. Repeated symmetrically on the
right and left of the gyol, these elements en-
rich the general composition. On the right
and left of the bulges in the lower part of
the medallion, stylized dog images are fea-
tured. On the right and left of the middle red
background field of the carpet, the top and
bottom corners are adorned with hooked
tree-like and spiral-shaped motifs. Between
the bulges of the gyol on the right and left,
white jutbuynuz (double-horned) elements
are represented.
The empty spaces of the middle field
are filled with s-shaped, four-petal, cross-
like flowers and small rosettes. The white
border of the carpet is decorated with ele-
ments specific to “Mugan” carpets, as well
as with elements occasionally employed in
“Salyan” and “Chukhanli” carpets, which
are included in the Shirvan Group and in
carpets from the Gazakh Group. Dark red,
navy blue, light green, white, brown, blue,
and orange are used to decorate these ele-
ments. The edges of the border are finished
with yellow and red incomplete lines.
The border is surroundedwith light green,
red, and blue zigzags on the outside and
navy blue zigzags on the inside. The navy
blue zigzags pointing towards the middle
field of the carpet make the ornamentation
of the general composition more noticeable
and give succinctness and significance to
the composition of the carpet. The colors
specific to Gazakh carpets of Azerbaijan
are represented on this carpet in traditional
harmony.
