The carpet was woven on the basis of
Karabakh’s “Bahmanli” composition.
The date 1284 AH appears inside the
large blue element in the center of the
carpet. This carpet has traditional char-
acteristics specific to Azerbaijani car-
pets. The main decoration of the middle
field of the carpet consists of two large
cream-colored background medallions
placed on a dark brown setting. A navy
blue hexagonal element is depicted in-
side the eight-pointed red geometric el-
ement, which is inside the medallion.
Sakkizbuynuz (eight-horned) motifs are
represented in the center of these geo-
metric motifs. There are yellow and navy
blue hooked motifs on the edges of the
hexagonal elements. The edges of the
hexagonal element are surrounded with
cream-colored su (water) and the edges
of the octagonal element are surrounded
with navy blue su. On the right and left
in the empty spaces of the cream-colored
background, large octagonal medallions
are decorated with red motifs similar to
tree branches with hooked edges, such as
are encountered on “Gasimushagi” and
“Chalabi” carpets of Karabakh. In the
empty spaces of the middle field, on the
right and left, the medallions in the up-
per and lower sections represent rhom-
bic evil-eye-catchers and stepped edged
classic elements.
In the upper and lower parts of the
cream-colored background medallions
and in the empty spaces of the middle
field on the right and left, large dogalag-
like elements are depicted. Inside the do-
galag-like elements, tree-like and rhom-
boid elements with zigzag edges are de-
picted. The empty spaces in the upper
and lower parts of these elements are
decorated with tree-like, arrow-like, and
other motifs. Octagonal stars of dark and
light blue, dark brown, and navy blue are
represented on the cream-colored back-
ground border of the carpet. Small classic
elements fill the empty spaces of the bor-
der. The stars are united by the geometric
motifs designed using red lines. On both
sides, the border is surrounded with ma-
dakhils decorated with red and brown
zigzag elements. Pink su completes the
edges of the zigzags. The internal ma-
dakhil is surrounded with cream and
red incomplete lines from the left and
with yellow and red from the right; the
outside madakhils are surrounded with
yellow and red incomplete lines on both
sides. The madakhils at the top and bot-
tom are completed with cream and red
lines on the inside and yellow and red
lines designed with z-shaped motifs on
the outside.
