Carpet. Wool. Pile-weave. Iravan group. Sisyan, Zangazur, western Azerbaijan. 295x145. 1327 AH/1906 CE.
The date 1327 AH appears at the top part of the carpet on the left. The main decoration of this red background carpet consists of four
large gyols (medallion) located on the middle field. Two of the gyols have white backgrounds and two have navy blue backgrounds.
Red, green, navy blue, grey, and white cross-like motifs are placed in the center of the gyols. There are octagonal geometric elements
in the center of these motifs. The edges of these geometric elements are designed with white and red sichandishi (mouse teeth) and the
edges of the light green background elements in the lower part are designed with black su (water).
The edges of these white background gyols are surrounded with blue hooked motifs on the outside, while the edges of the navy blue
medallions are encircled with yellow hooked motifs. The white medallions are designed in red and green on the inside, while the navy
blue medallions are designed with red and white incomplete lines.
The empty spaces of the carpet’s middle field are filled with octagonal motifs, octagonal stars, six-petal flowers, rhombic, s-shaped,
evil-eye-catching, and small sirga (earring) motifs.
On the edges of the carpet’s middle field, white, blue, yellow, and green hooked elements pointing towards the center from right and
left complete the general composition.
