The carpet is included in the Guba group. It was woven in Seyidlar village,
Khachmaz region. The carpet has manuscript elements and is pile weave. The mate-
rial used for the carpet was wool. The carpet consists of a central field and border
strip. The border strip consists of three sections.
Small plant elements have been woven on the border strip of this carpet using the
weaving technique of other Guba carpets. Both external border strips are symmetric
and the patterns inside them are as well. Inside the major border strip, a geometric
horn element spreads to the four edges of the square. Such hook-like elements are
reminiscent of the horn of a ram. In Azerbaijan tales and legends, horned animals
are symbols of power and strength. Points with different colors have been woven
inside the elements of this minor border strip, which the weaver used to protect this
carpet against the evil eye.
The central field has been formed as a result of repeating various hexagonal geo-
metrical patterns. Their contours are colorful. There is proximity between the pat-
terns of the central field and elements of the major border. The horn-like elements
twisting to the sides woven in the central field carry the same meaning, glorifying
power and strength. A tree with five branches has been woven among the geometri-
cal motifs. This element is known as the “Tree of Life” or the “Tree of Knowledge”
and is considered a symbol of eternal life.
No repair or restoration work has been conducted on the carpet. The carpet is in
excellent condition. The carpet is of artistic, historic, and scientific importance.
