The “Mollakamalli” carpet is considered the most rare cheshni woven in the Guba
group. The carpet was woven from wool, has manuscript elements, and is pile we-
ave. . It was woven in Mollakamalli village, Shabran region. The carpet consists of a
central field and border strip. Contrasting color tones are used in the “Mollakamalli”
carpet. Dark blue, red, blue, ivory, white, and violet tones make the carpet more
attractive and colorful. There are traces of “abrash” on the border areas of the carpet.
This carpet was woven on the basis of classic traditions. The border consists of
eight strips and warm elements like branches, hooks, and petals. The central field
consists of three successive gols. Though the pattern of the upper and lower gols
with scalloped edges has been repeated, the internal structure of the central gol is
completely different. Generally, all patterns on the carpet have constructive geo-
metrical structures. These patterns represent symbols of eternity and eternal life.
Geometrical plant elements are woven in the center of the central field.
As a rule, the color red is preferred in Azerbaijani carpets, as related to the be-
liefs of ancient times. The color red was observed on earthenware found during
archaeological excavations in the territory of Azerbaijan. The people used the color
red in ancient times for protection against bad spirits. Other traditions also support
this belief, such as putting henna on the hands of brides, putting a red veil on their
heads, and winding red material around their waists. The color red used on carpets
protects its owner and every person who sits on it.
Repair and restoration work has been conducted on some parts of the carpet. The
carpet is in excellent condition. The carpet is of artistic, historic, and scientific im-
portance.
