A mosque has been depicted on the top of the carpet. The mosque consists of four
minarets.
There are candelabra motifs between the columns in the lower part of the cent-
ral field. The space near the center between the columns has been divided into
“mehrab”(shrine)-shaped parts.
Red and sugar-colored motifs trim the border of the blue background dividing
central field and the upper and lower sections, as is typical for Shirvan carpets.
The major border of the white background of the carpet is decorated
by medallions with protruding selvages (self-finished edges). There
are flowery and leafy branches in the gaps of the border. The border
motifs are trimmed with laurel-like, dark blue, yellow, dark green,
blue, and white. The border is supplemented by yellow “sichandisi”
(mouse teeth) on both sides.
The date 1233 AH appears on the quadrangular “ketebe” with a sugar-colored
background on the top of the carpet as well as on the selvages of the central field.
The color arrangement of the carpet is an example of traditional regularity and
superior workmanship.
The pile and wrap is made of wool, but the weft of the carpet is made from cotton.
The storage condition of the carpet is adequate. The carpet is of artistic, historic, and
scientific importance.
