The artistic structure of the carpet consists of a very rich central field
and border. “Gosha gyol” (pair medallion) motifs arranged one af-
ter another have been depicted on the dark blue padded central field.
“Gosha gyol” in the upper and lower sections have been depicted in
cornelian while four “gyol” in the center have been designed with mi-
xed colors. The edges of the “gyol” are scallopped.
Three medallions have been placed between the “gyol” in the gaps of the central
field of the carpet. These medallions differ from one another both in form and size.
Other gaps between medallions and on the selvages (self-finished edges) of the car-
pet are patterned with hexagonal, hooked, diamond-shaped, “dord unsur” (four ele-
ment), axial, horseshoe-shaped, stylized animal and bird motifs, and other motifs.
There are images of leaves embroidered with yellow, blue, and sumac in the upper
and lower sections of the central field.
The white-padded main border of the carpet has been trimmed with motifs called
“horuk” (braid). These motifs can be found in the majority of carpets belonging to
the Shirvan and Guba groups. The main border on both sides has been encircled by
minor borders trimmed with cornelian and blue motifs called “heyvanbashi” (ani-
mal head).
The edges of the minor border are completed with white “sichandishi” (mouse
teeth) motifs. The inner minor border has been surrounded on the inside with a
white-padded “medakhil,” patterned with axial motifs and an outer minor border
on the outside. The color of the motifs on the main border is repeated in the motifs
on the “medakhils.”
The edges of the “medakhils” are supplemented with white “su” (water) and “sic-
handishi.” A minor border of the carpet has been patterned with yellow, white, cor-
nelian, and lilac-colored flowers.
This complexly patterned carpet also possesses a rich color design. Eleven color
tints have been used on the carpet. The color balance has been maintained regularly
as well, where a multi-colored, amazing color palette has been created by using a
large range of colors.
The pile and warp of the carpet is wool and the weft is of cotton. The storage
condition of this carpet is adequate. The carpet is of artistic, historic, and scientific
importance.
