The artistic structure of the carpet contains a central field and border.
Red and ivory “buta” (paisley) have been depicted in the same direction through a straight line in the dark blue
central field of the carpet. The direction of the buta is turned to the left and right in alternating order.
The “buta” element is applied in different forms in various fields of Azerbaijani decorative-applied art. The
“buta” element is so widespread that it is related with any event and way of life. The carpet arts employ types
such as “Khila-buta” and “Sarabi-buta” in relation to the names of settlements and “shabalid-buta,” “badam
buta,” “hemli-buta,” “arvad-ushagli buta,” and others based on its symbolic meaning. The buta depicted on this
carpet are called “Shirvan-buta” and they are usually depicted on “Sorsor” carpets of the Shirvan group.
Small, rhomboidal elements and small “gulabdan buta” have been placed among the buta.
Human, bird, animal, kite, and rhomb elements are arranged vertically in consecutive order to the right and
left of the central field.
