Azerbaijani Legends about the Prophet Noah
Résumé
On the basis of extensive folkloric sources, Azerbaijani legends
about the Prophet Noah, their roots, and their comparative study
on topics in world folklore are reviewed in this article. There is a
theory that the legends related to all heavenly religions and the
universal personages of world mythology, including Noah (Nuh),
Solomon (Suleiman), David (Davud), Khidr (Khizir), Elijah (Il-
yas) and other prophets demonstrate the large scale of the artis-
tic-geographic boundaries of Azerbaijan’s folkloric way of think-
ing, its thematic richness, and its ethno-cosmic universalism. This
theory indicates that ancient Turkic epic thinking is a branch of
world epic creativity. In addition to the study of the Prophet Noah
in world mythological-epic traditions, heavenly religions, and an-
cient Oghuz-Turk epic tradition, legends related to Noah, the ar-
eas of distribution of legends about Noah, topics and characters
related to the legend, and other issues are studied in this article.
The relationship between Noah and Nakhchivan is particularly
researched as will as the mythological logic of the legends, Noah
created the lands of Nakhchivan and originated here.

Азербайджанские легенды о пророке Ное
Резюме
В статье на основе большого фольклорного материала
проводится анализ азербайджанских легенд о пророке Ное,
говорится об их истоках, дано их сравнительное сопостав-
ление с сюжетами мирового фольклора. Было выдвинуто по-
ложение, что легенды о таких универсальных персонажах
всех мировых религий и существующих мифологий, как Нух
(Ной), Сулейман (Соломон), Давуд, Хызыр, Ильяс (Илья) и
др., являются показателями широты художественно-гео-
графических границ азербайджанского фольклорного мыш-
ления, тематического богатства, этнокосмического универ-
сализма, и доказательством, что древнетюркское эпическое
мышление является частью мирового эпического творче-
ства. В статье, наряду с темой о пророке Ное в мировой
мифолого-эпической традиции, мировых религиях, древней
огузско-тюркской, традиции, анализируются легенды о Ное,
вопросы о распространении легенд о Ное, их сюжеты и об-
разы. Особой темой рассмотрения стала тема Ной и На-
хчыван, было показано, что, следуя мифической логике ле-
генд, земли Нахчывана были созданы Ноем, и именно он стал
здесь родоначальником жизни.
