Carpet. “Balig.” Wool, pile weave. 565x93. 1800.
Nakhchivan Group. Azerbaijan.
The flowers combine together to form a chain on the ivory background minor borders.
Light red, dark blue, and ivory-colored “su” (water) elements are depicted along the borders.
The carpet is a part of a set called “dast-khali-gaba.” This set includes three, four, and five carpets. The largest of them
is “ortalig,” two of them are “kenare” (end), one is “bashlig,” and the other is “ayagalti.” This “Balig” carpet is a “kenare”
part of such sets.
The tints belonging to the traditional “Balig” composition have been used in the carpet. The pleasant charm of the light
red color attracts the eye. A delightful composition has been created in the carpet by coordinating ivory, deep blue, and
green colors within the main color of the background.
The carpet has ivory-colored fringes at its upper and lower edges.
The pile, warp, and weft of the carpet are wool. The condition of the carpet is excellent. The carpet is of artistic, historical,
and scientific importance.
